The Bride and Groom

Alex

AlexBorn in San Diego, California Alex grew up in Midlothian, VA. When she wasn't watching Dawson's Creek or posting pictures on her bedroom wall, she was hanging out with friends or being involved in theater productions.

Always drawn to the beach she was accepted to UNC Wilmington to pursue theater production and film. As most college students do, she switched interests a couple times before finding a career path. After her first accounting class, she worked towards a BS in Accounting.

After graduation, she landed a position at IBM in Raleigh. After a few years in accounting, she was promoted to manage a team in global process services that provide accounting services to clients.

Alex now spends her time being a social butterfly, organizing social events and traveling the world with her fiancé.

IAN

Ian Born in Blacksburg, Virginia, Ian's family moved to upstate New York. Ian grew up learning to play the piano from the age of 3, playing basketball and showing interest in computers. After high school, Ian went to The University of North Carolina where he studied in Music Performance, Astronomy and Computer Science.

During college Ian worked for a start-up web development company and quickly became interested in the creative aspect of web development where he has worked with livingsocial's creative department and now works for MetLife's global technology organization.

Ian today spends most of his time writing and playing music, building web applications, and traveling the world with Alex.

HOW WE MET

In 2009 Alex Miller was busy with building her career, throwing her infamous cookie parties and being the quintessential "social butterfly", while Ian was burning up downtown Raleigh like most singles do. Alex & Ian originally met at the notorious Raleigh Times Bar in downtown Raleigh, NC.

They discovered they were inseparable and very in love. The rest is history- they've shared some amazing adventures around the world, including Manila, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Krakow, Bangkok and now they're ready to share the rest of their lives together, too.

ABOUT 214 MARTIN

Cobblestone Hall is downtown Raleigh's premier special event's facility. The facility is located in City Market with the main entrance on Wolfe Street. With the unrivaled Moore Square Park across the street and historic cobblestone streets, buildings, specialty boutiques, and restaurants all around - there is nothing like it!

HISTORY OF THE MARKET

The day was October 1, 1914. Headlines in the Raleigh News & Observer told of the price of cotton being 10 cents a pound and the build-up of troops in Europe readying themselves for the "great conflict". But the headlines that captivated most Raleigh citizens on this day read "New Market Is Now Open - Thousands Throng The Building While Ceremonies Are In Progress".

From October 1, 1914 until the mid 1940's the City Market flourished. Farmers from the Eastern part of the state came regularly in their trucks and horse drawn carts bringing produce, poultry, seafood and flowers. Home baked goods were also a favorite among Raleigh city wives. On Saturdays you would find farmers gathered at the Market and in Moore Square (known as the "the Grove") visiting and picnicking with their family and friends.

In 1980, the City Council secured a grant from the North Carolina Division of Archives & History to study the architectural resources surrounding Moore Square. As a result, the City Market was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. The City then began work to rehabilitate the Market and nearby buildings

Registry

Due to the nature of city life (not a great deal of storage space), we have decided to embrace the Honeymoon Registry site. However, if you prefer the traditional route, we are registered at Crate & Barrel and Amazon!
